The Gran Risa in La Villa is one of the steepest giant slalom hills in the World Cup. The mostly shaded north-facing slope keeps the snow cold and aggressive throughout December — conditions in which cold waxes and abrasion-resistant bases make the difference.

Race waxes are specified for narrow snow-temperature windows — a few degrees decide whether a base runs or goes blunt.
